The Tale of Two Duncans

I have two Duncan corals, one is sprouting new heads, the second is older and still only has two heads. The one head has grown huge, it's literally almost 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Is there something I can do to encourage it to grow more heads instead of the single head growing?

when i fed mine alot i noticed more heads quickly. growth has slowed somewhat since i have been busy with the pooch and not feeding the tanks as much.

What do you usually feed Mr. X? I have tired mysis but that is a little hit and miss. I just recently picked up cyclopeeze and tried squirting a little bit in, but it is really hard to tell if they are getting anything or not.

feed them meaty food. I feed daily but the one duncan just grows bigger, no new heads.
The one I picked up locally is doing fabulous!!!

I fed mine with krill every day and they grew like weeds. Keep in mind though different colonies grow at different rates...

With no flow in the tank and when they are fully open you shouldn't have any issues. The problem in my tank was that my fish would steal it from the heads.

My sixline does the same thing, I have to distact him on one side of the tank, and quickly try to get the duncans some food.

If you have a problem with tank mates stealing food from your duncan, take a 2 liter bottle and cut it in half. I place the top half over my slow feeders so my cleaner shrimp does not steal the food.

I don't feed mine much anymore because they are already too darn big but I used to feed mostly mysis, any else seems too small. Chopped up krill on occansion and they don't seem to have a problem with that either. I'd check your calcium and alk though, all the feeding in the world isn't going to build skeleton if the water parameters aren't correct.
