Does anyone have any thoughts on this? How will it impact the world on a global scale. if russia begins invasion do we intervene?
Keep in mind the Protests and the ousting of the government was done by a large section of people that wanted a relationship with the EU and not with Russia.
Thoughts?

My thoughts:

We signed an agreement with the Ukraine that if they gave up their nukes we would protect them from invasion.

If we protect Ukraine it has the potential to become WWIII.

If we do not protect Ukraine we will be going back on a promise.

If we do not protect Ukraine Russia will not stop with just the one country. They will continue until we force them to stop.

It's a UN problem.

The UN is useless.

Bang hit the nail on the head.

Interesting factoid. Way back in 2008 a politician predicted that if 0bama got elected and implemented the foreign policy he was proposing that Russia would end up invading the Ukraine. Anyone remember who it was who took all the crap for the "crazy prediction"?

I agree. So the Million Dollar question is, can we maintain our word without sparking a world war. Is our President Strong enough to do so? Or savy enough?
Judging off Foreign policy recent history, I say no.

What has been the problem with Obama's foreign policy? He's following through with what Bush started by pulling our troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq (which we should've never been in the first place). Instead taking the Republican mentality towards these types of conflicts and running in with guns blazing, he's taken the more diplomatic approach with the likes of Iran and North Korea, and so far we're not sending our soldiers into harms way to fight for some political justification of how a foreign nation runs their country.

IIRC the vote to allow Invading Afghanistan and Iraq didn't follow party lines. I'm torn on Afghanistan but I can agree that we shouldn't have invaded Iraq.

Couldn't get a status of forces agreement with iraq

Same issue appears to be happening in Afghanistan and Karzai who has done every thing in his power to make 0bama look bad

Syria debacle

It has fairly or not made 0bama look weak despite him butching it up with the drones. Putin is a nut sack so its hard to say whether or not he would have pulled this had 0bama been able to project a sense he was leading the way on foreign policy but it sure hasn't helped.

No, I think we need to stay out of this mess and fix our own problems first. I think Russia will prevail on this one. Putin has done a cost analysis before invading Ukraine and has determined the pros outweigh the cons. The US has little influence over Russia anymore, especially in terms of economics.

It's a no win for Obama. If he stays out of it, he's considered weak. If he were to send troops, he'd be considered nuts, and would more than likely start something that none of us want ANYTHING to do with.

So, what do you want him to do?

(I personally say it's not our problem, so butt out.)

Germany and The Soviet Union weren't really our problem when they started out either

Given the corruption and lack of a backbone within the UN I don't see a viable solution. It isn't worth a military confrontation, THIS TIME. We (the western world) cannot allow Russia to continue pushing out it's borders. Had 0bama had a more coherent foreign policy it MIGHT have made a difference. All the recent flubs sure didn't make Putin think twice before jumping froggy.
