well my royal gramma was doin just fine (introuduced today), untill my yellow tail damsels spotted him!
they have already nipped his tail fin

the clowns were even trying to protect him (that was cool) then i attempted with no results to net the 2 b*&*^$&%$^ and the 3 blue green chromis were going nuts and after each other!, (actually saw 2 "kiss") and the whole tank is in havoc now
i have heard horror stories about getting damsels out, i just hope this isnt gonna be the first and last day for my gramma

Try feeding flakes. Then as the damsels ZOOOM up to get the food, swipe with a net at the same time.. you have to be fast, but it worked for me.
Or try the pop bottle with a little brine shrimp and a string trick mauahah!

i was putting pellets in the net, but EVERYONE was picking at it from the outside lol, dont tell me these creatures dont know whats goin on, tried the same thing with a crab and the exact same thing happened. but that method did work with my cichlids in my last fw tank.
didn't try just dropping it in yet, and i dont know if i should put anymore food in the tank. :notsure:

The only way I was successful in catching my damsel was to take out all the rock. I hope you do not have to do that. It's a big pain in the rear. I tried the flake trick, but my damsel was too smart. He saw the flakes, saw the net, saw me, and decided against the food. Even if he went for it, there is no way I'd be fast enough. :happyfish

Or you could make your own trap.... get one of those wide mouth 1 liter bottles of soda, and drink it, pour it out, whatever...
Then, cut it all the way around about 1/4 way down from the top. Turn the top around and shove it into the bottom of the bottle, neck first. Throw in some food, drop it in the tank, (you'll probably have to weight it down with something), and wait. They'll fall for it everytime.
Of course, this only works for little damsels. I'm trying to figure out how I'm supposed to get my friend's 4 inch blue fin damsel out of my tank when he gets his tank back together. (It's huge.... it's also 3 1/2 years old).:D

everytime i need to catch a fish out of my tank
i get this piece of acrylic that i got from home depot that was cut to the exact inner dimensions of my tank (width and height)
i did a rough cut on the acrylic to make it fit around rocks closely
i only have to move one piece of rock to the other side of the tank
then i wait for the fish to go to the left quarter side of my tank then i slide the acrylic all the way to the bottom
then i have the fish trapped in a small portion of the tank and he has no escape
very easy to catch then
its funny to watch them ram into the acrylic trying to get away
thats how i usually catch them i wait for them to run into it and scoop them up from behind
total cost 2 dollars
works everytime

Hi, I had to catch my two green chromis as the tank needed to be moved. I shut off the lights and used a flashlight. They just stayed in one corner and I scooped them both up. You might want to try that
Good Luck :)

Cindy, How did you catch the little SOB. I had a fish that I had to take out. I had to take out all the LR and about 2/3 of the water. Even after doing that I had to use a piece of glass to section off the take to catch him.

Get a 2 liter pop bottle. Cut the top off. Where the label starts. Flip the top part you have cut off upside down. to the part that you would pour from is face down in the bottle. Put some food in there. The damsel will be curious and swim in. It will not be able to swim out due to the fact that fish swim along the out sides. I had a damsels that was name god damn f%$^ sob, aka

[hr]
for short. I had to flush him. He killed my cb butterfly. They are hard to catch. If worst coems to worst, you could get skewers and a rubberband, and make a bow and arrow. JK. I had me and my sister catch him. We used two nets. If you put something in the tank the fish learn to except it because it becomes part of there environment. Lave that net in there for a while, or over night, and then you could catch him in the morning. Maybe smeone can helo you, that makes it much easier. these are just some of the techniques that I tried.
Good luck,
Leopard

I aslo use the acrylic technique. I turn off the pumps and put some food in the corner and the fish come swimmin. Works like a charm

thanks everyone for your suggestions, all are in mind for the 2nd guy if the net trick contiues to fail. in the mean time, i have not seen the royal gramma since yesterday morning
