Took a few new shots this evening. I was pretty happy with the results on most of them. I can't seem to get a clear shot of one of the newest additions (image #3). I have a fav new addition, traded some frags to a local reefer here in Vegas and received these smokin' pinks in return. I've never seen this morph...pinks with white mouths, and look at the length of those skirts !!

Get some paly's, they are generally tougher and a nicer size.

Very nice
.. I have just started keeping some zoa's. SHould they be in strong lighting or more moderate lighting? I have mine about 5" away from 130w of actinic and they have yet to open. I have only had them about 24 hours at this point so they might just still be acclimating. My water is fine, temp is good.

Make sure they are getting flow.

Thanks for the props all...I recently acquired this nice sized frag from a local reefer. Seriously, has anyone seen these colors together before?
Max - You have one with your name on it already...no worries.
For everyone else who's asked, as soon as mine's grown out enough to frag, I will let you know ok? Will more than likely want to trade for non-common zoas/palys, acans or blasto's. The frag I got is pretty nice sized, but I'm leary of fragging it until it's settled in a little more. I've literally had it for one week. Lots of tiny new polyps on the frag so it shouldn't be too long. For those who have asked for a frag, please PM me so I get back to you first. If I can get my hands on more sooner, I will re-post.
Yes I have all these (total of 22 -- 18 colonies, and 4 frags) of zoas & palys in the one tank and about 6-7 frags & small colonies in a 24 Nano. Yes, I like them
. I can't take a decent FTS just yet. I sold the only lens I had that could take a FTS's and haven't replaced it.....yet. It's still on my radar, more importantly, it's on the wife's radar. She doesn't have a chance poor thing...I have a pamphlet (of the new lens I want) "laying on the table" for her to find <--hint hint (It's my B-Day next week).

The best answer I can tell you (from my own experience only here) is, it depends. There are some general "rules of thumb" to go by with zoas & palys, or corals in general for that matter, but what it boils down to is they're living creatures and they're not all the same.
They can adjust to things like being in high flow or low flow but they all need a minimum amount of light & flow to survive. I've seen some strong growing, healthy zoas under "less than ideal" lighting or flow but apparently it was enough and they adapted to it.
I keep most of mine about mid height, with moderate flow but there are some that are in the lower third of the tank (just cuz there's not enough room throughout the middle) and they're healthy and growing as well. One thing that I've noticed is when it comes to corals (health and growth rate) people seem to talk about light and flow primarily. Not that those aren't both vital, but something that gets discussed very little, and is of equal importance is putting the corals where you want them and then leaving them alone! The more I leave frags alone, the more they seem to open up, and just G-R-O-W !! Something to be said for that as well. As long as they're getting light and some level of flow they'll be ok. People seem to want to move them....wait a couple of days or weeks, then they don't see it double in size so they pick them up and move them....and again...and again....then wonder why their corals won't grow.
