thermometer position

This may seem like a silly question but i am asking anyways. Does it matter whether a thermometer is positioned horozontally or vertically? Because I have had mine mounted veritcally but want to move it towards the bottom of the tank and mount it horozontally. Would that affect the reading? My thermomter has been very close to the heater and I want to move it away because I think i may be throwing the reading off. Thanks.

You can put it anywhere you want. It will not affect the reading as long as it is in the water.

I have my power head next to my heater so the heated water will be disperesed and moved around the tank. This was a recimendation in a book I read.

I would not position the thermometer right next to the heater.
