Hey all, I have a 36" long 30 gallon and I'm preparing for some corals in the next few months, anyone have feedback on this unit? It looks good for the price and has a built in LCD screen and LED moon lights, the fixture itself runs 3x39w Actinics and 3x39w 12,000k's.
36" 234W T5 HO Aquarium Light Hood LCD Timer Coral Reef 6x39 Fluorescent Actinic
Any other suggestions? The tank is only 17" deep.
Thanks!

Hi,
We are not supposed to post another site, SWF.com doesn't allow it. Anyway, it's a very good unit for what you need. The T5s are great because they don't put out the heat that MHs do, and they are affordable unlike the LED fixtures. So I would go for it.
By the way...Welcome to the site!

Not a bad price.
Please be careful posting links. The Mods frown on it.
It is a basic T5 off brand fixture. I did not see if it said it has individual reflectors for each bulb (I doubt it does), and you would want to replace the bulbs with something better (not necessarily right off the bat, but within 6 months). I am not sure what the LCD screen does, its not like an LED fixture where you can control the brightness of the T5's.
Have you looked at any LED fixtures?? There are some decent ones out there right now that would fit in your price range. Google search the D120 fixtures. These are the Chinese off brand LED fixtures usually with 55 3 watt LED's (bridgelux brand, not as good as CREE but still pretty good). They are dimmable and you can get a unit for around the same price as the T5. Or even check out the controllable LED fixtures (google it 2040 or it 2080's)
If you are for sure going T5 check out the aqua traders web site. They make an Odyssea four bulb T5 fixture that is about 50 bucks cheaper then the ebay item you posted. But same thing, you would need to replace/upgrade the bulbs, and then you are still buying new bulbs each year to 9 months.
Either way you go, congrats on getting ready for coral.
