think I figured out my algae problem!

So I have had this horrible brown stringy algae in my tank for about a month or so. My trates stay a steady 0 and phosphates very near 0 (hard to tell on my API test). Nothing has changed recently in my tank and I have been stumped.
Last night I think it finally hit me. I received one of those AreoGarden things as an xmas present and it just happens to be set up about 15' from my DT.

It is in a different room, but it puts out enough light to make it into the other room and it runs like 16 hours a day.
What do you think? Did I find the culprit?

this is the best I can get. the strings are dark brown and up to 6" long.
