Thinking about getting rid of my HOB filter

Currently I'm running a marineland HOB filter on my 29G. I'm kinda getting tired of it and wanna get something better. I was thinking about a canister filter but I've also considered a sump. I have an extra 20G long tank that I'm currently not using. So I have 2 questions. Which is better canister or sump? And what's the cheapest way to setup a sump in my 20G? My wife is having a C-section tomorrow so I'll finally be a daddy and money isn't the easiest thing to come by with all that going on right now lol.

sumps are really nice, you can put your equipment in there, , have a section for a fuge ect but in a small tank like yours, a nice canister would work well.
With a sump, you will need a hob back overflow and a return pump.
I have two rena canisters and they are very easy to clean, and come with a spray bar.
