when putting anything in a tank w/ a trigger theres some risk, but more than likely theyll be fine. but what size tank r u going to have? for the fish ud want id suggest prolly a 75gal-80gal for what u want. if u want a volitian lion of some type like a fu manchu or something u should
have a larger tank, as they r one of the largest lions. good tank mates hmm, maybe a SFE, after awhile maybe a ribbon eel but be careful, they r known to be picky eater, often starving themselves. a puffer like a spiny box, blue stripe, and other toby puffers (i cant think of many names) maybe a clown of some type, scorpionfish. mako shark, jk. maybe a yellow tang, dwarf angel. ok i cant think of anything else so im just gonna say thats all.

I have a black Volitan in my tank and he's fine right now with all 3 of my triggers. I will admit I have a considerably larger tank then you and would not suggest the same combo as me. Again putting anything in with triggers can be a risk but as long as they have enough room and do not have to compete for food they may be able to get along.
My suggestion is to make sure that the lion is bigger than the trigger and in the tank first. I would get a trigger that is small enough to not be aggressive yet, but not small enough for the lion to look at it as food. That way the trigger is used to the lion always being there. Again, just my suggestion.

niger triggers can be pretty well behaved.. but they have even been known to pick at the fins of lions.. so that is not thebest combo.. and especially in as small a tank as an 80 youre really not supposed to put a trigger of any kind in any smaller than a 100 so sharkboy was a bit off on his suggestion... and a volitan lion would need a 100 gallon tank as well so youd deff have to get a much small lion! with an 80g your pretty limited on what you canreally do in the end!
