I went to a Fish Store today and saw this...
Really awesome looking Shrimp. Forgot what
kind it was. The thing was about 5 inches
long. It had retractable claws. And was
labeled(Caution, not meant to be with others)
So the thing eats fish the size of my fist
according to the guy at the store.
Couldn't find any pics of it anywhere on the web.
Anyone know what this is that I am talking
about? The thing was expensive $65.00
Are they hard to take care for?

i think youre talking about a mantis shrimp. sometimes an unlucky person will get one on their LR. they wont know it, and fish will just disappear.

i used to have a peacock manits, but sadly he passed on. i dont know if 65 is a good price or not b/c i got mine for free. mine at raw shrimp, live ghost shrimp, live feeders, and dead crawfish i got from the lfs. a word of waring, the arent called thumbsplitters for nothing. i cleaned out his tank whith a long handed algea scrapper. he was in a 20 gal with cc, a few pieces of rock and a piece pf pvc pipe. he was really cool. bo

Thnx for the info.
Strange... you say they might hitchhike onto
live rock??? I bought a Damsel to break in
my tank actually... 2 days later it vanished.
Was no where to be found. Not on the floor,
not in the filter... not in the sand... I
combed the sand twice, looked under the LR.
But that was a month ago, and my clown fish
hasnt been touched. We had another damsel
in there, but we hardly doubt it ate it.
Grouper, how long did yours live for?

the one i got was at the lfs forever, no one wanted it. i got him and had him for about 3 months. he died fromgetting crushed. one of the rocks in his tank fell on him and crushed him. it was my fault, the rocks were stacked and werent very stable and they just fell and crushed him. he was very easy to keep and i never had any troubles with him except for cleaning the tank. bo
