Tonight while i was working on my plane I heard a small sqeek. I looked over and saw a little bat face down on the ground. I picked him up and held him to get him warm then set him on some equipment about 4feet above the ground. My friend said the only way they can fly is if they drop from way above. Is this true?
My wife is very angry I held a bat...but all animals have feelings so wanted to help.

you should never ever ever touch a bat with your bare hands! They have a very very high rate of rabies, had one at the zoo that had been in captivity it's whole life, one of the keepers got bit and he had to get the rabies series even though he had the preventative shot.
It is nice to help wildlife out, but next time use something between your hands and the animal. Especially if it is acting abnormal (bat's rarely fall on the ground, could have been sick).

Wow, thats cool! we have bats around my house up in the trees and they come out right before nightfall to hunt. Ive never had a bat before but I have a similar story. A few years ago we found a baby hummingbird on the ground that had fallen from a nest. We brought it home and took care of it until it was better and one day when we went into the room it was hovering in the air. We opened the window and watched it fly out and that was really cool!

That is so sweet, it nice that there is people out there willing to help. I would have done the samething and my husband would have been upset at me. But you are not thinking about what could happen to you.
Two weeks ago on my way to my nail appt. there was a little dog running in the road (During lunch Hour). There were a couple of people out trying to catch it. So I pulled up on the side walk and jumped out, by then the few people that were trying to catch him gave up. A guy came to help, but the little dog was afaird of men I think. Anyways I sat in the middle of the road and patted my lap and the little dog came not a problem. After I was back on the sidewalk with the little guy, I thought to my self my husband would have killed me, sitting in the middle of the road, pregnet, trying to catch someone else's dog. (All the traffic was stopped, so I was not worried). There is a trailer park for older people right there, I think that is where it came from. It was a chubby well cared for little dog. Another couple stopped that lived in the trailer park and offered to take it to the front office. So it all ended well.

I am glad you were kind enough to let it go. Nothing "wild" wants to be captured and penned. Horrible thing to do. You have a heart. Glad your on this earth. Can't stand this people thing of wanting animals to control, to take their very life away from them. They keep the insect population down. They serve an important position in our environment.

We used to throw stuff up in the air when we were kids, and bats would chase whatever we threw.........no point to my story....you just reminded me of the fact.
