time frame

I just noticed today my yellow eyed tang has white dust specks all over him He is breathing real heavy and it looks like his cheeks are sucked in.Just fired up a QT tank tonight used 50/50 mix of tank water and aged salt water.Do I have a chance to save him or has he had it and just take him out now?What is the average time from beginning to end?I am afraid the QT tank wont be cycled in time.The fish have been in the display tank since 12/30/02 and were fine untill today.

Well he didnt make it through the night.I guess I need to get the other 2 out.But my QT hasnt cycled yet,can I still but them in provided all my readings are ok?Are my inverts ok?are they suspect to this outbreak?How could this have happened I was so careful in acclumating them and watched my levels like a hawk.They have been in there since 12/23/02.
