I bought 2 coralife power centers day night timers & both have stoped working. Been using them for 8 mo's. One timer quite at 2 mo's old. Anybody use anything else for lights?

Is this a problem? I'm getting ready to order one of these but if they are that problematic, I'll put my money elsewhere.

Well, I've looked at several ratings from people who have purchased this item and everyone rates it as awful. One person said they would have rated it a 0 if they could. Now I'm looking at the Newtek Digital 7 day timer that has Day/Night alternating switches. It appears to be pretty good and actually cheaper. It just does not have the dual timer but I can live without that.

I use New Tek digital surge protectors. I just like the accuracy of digital. Now the megative. If the battery dies (uses battery for timer...don't know why...should be used as a backup for power outages) and power outages, the times have to be reprogrammed and you have to do every day. I wish there was a function where you could could just say this time for every day.

Wait a minute, are you saying that the timer does not run off of A/C? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I thought the battery was a backup to save the digital settings in case of a power failure. I don't think I want this thing either. Just curious, how long do the batteries last?
RiDoMart,
Do a search. They sell them at several places. We can't post links here.

If your coral life timers failed within a year, they will replace them on warranty. Coralife is super at taking care of warranty problems.
The coral life also uses a battery but the batteries principal function is to keep the timers settings, not run the timer itself......Go with the digital timers over the mechanical type.

Check out your local home improvement store for Intermatic model#DT-17 digital timers. They do run on 2 small watch batteries, but have no current overflow and a relay inside so they don't harm flourescent ballasts. We have 5 of these on 3 different tanks and they are great. Only paid 17.99 each for them at Menard's

I have 2 Coralife timers. I rerouted my electrical cords last night and noticed something pretty strange. Read the back of the timer. "Not for use with aquariums" and a notice not to place in a damp area. WOW, that's reassuring.

I read on another fish forum that a lady who had one came home to her house burning, the fire inspector found it was the coralife center that started the fire :scared:
She lost her tank and her home office that the tank was in, she showed pics was a real mess. So be carefull.
