I use Intermatic Heavy Duty Outdoor 15Amp timers... the ones I buy have a cover over the timer and plug to keep the workings dry, there is a 'pig tail' plug that plugs into the wall outlet. They work very well and I have never had a problem with them.

Dear hobbyist ,try going to Walmart ,the timers are not as expensive ,but are very durable . I brought 2 from walmart and I have no problems at all .They're digital and come with a backup battery .

With all due respect to you Pastor, I also went to Walmart and bought 3 inexpensive (non digital, non battery back-up) timers. The kind that you use when you are not at home to keep intruders at bay. They are plugged in to my GFCI power strips and as Ron Popiel says "you just set it and forget it". They work great

I agree with pastor, the battery backup/digital is the way to go. When the power goes out, as it seems to do alot around here, you don't have to reset or mess with it. It keeps the time with no worries.

These are great. They are available at Home Depot. Battery back up is standard with these babies!

Maybe/probably because I am new to all of this, but what the heck is all that in the picture? To many boxes just to be a timer.

I agree as when the power goes out the last thing that I am worried about is lighting. Powerheads and skimmer come first.

Yes...I guess I should have been more specific... The timers are the things in the TOP section of the picture....The things below them are dosing pumps...This pic was from a thread I posted on dosing pumps.

i have 4 plugs for my lights (4 individual switches) and i wish i could find some timers that did at least two separate timing schedules in one timer so i could stager all the lights comming on and off without having to use 4 timers.

Not to highjack but since we are talking about battery backups. How do you think the battery back up systems that you can get with a computer would fair on a tank. Just plug the necessities in that and ever have a power outage you dont have to worry about your tank going down.

Yes...I agree...The only thing like that is the POS coralife timer thingy.

i have a coralife on my 12g and after two months is stopped working and just turned on and off lights whenever it felt like it. i wouldn't buy another unless someone else started making one with dual digital timers.
