Did you cycle the tank before adding fish into it?
A QT must be cycled prior to adding fish. That can be done with a piece of live rock or some fish food. The bacteria will colonize on the surfaces of the tank and in the filter pads. The rock should then be removed before you add the fish. If the tank is not cycled then it will cycle with the fish in there. You will have to do frequent water changes.
Are the fish being treated for anything or are they new?

What water quality issues are you running into? Are you having ammonia spikes? How many fish are in there?
The bio rings will help. It is more surface area for the bacteria to colonize.
When you cycled the tank did you add an ammonia source?

I guess if you are using medicines to treat then you couldn't use a carbon or something like chemipur, huh? That is a good question. How abotu water changes daily?

You cannot use chemi-pure with medications. It would remove the meds. Daily water changes can be done if you are treating with copper. You would just have to add copper to the buckets of change water and make sure that the reading matches the QT. Daily changes become more difficult if you are using tablet medications such as antibacterial treatments.

How high is it spiking? How are you treating them for ich? Unfortunately at this point you cannot add any rock from the display if the tank is being treated. You will have to keep up with the spikes by doing water changes. How did you cycle it to begin with? Did you add an ammonia source?

WC are the best way to keep the parameters in check. If they have ick, how are you treating them? I would do hyposalinity before copper. If you choose to do hypsalinity, it can only be done with fish and you should take anything else living out (rocks, sand, inverts, etc). If you can, do the changes every day after you have fed them. That way you can get out as much left over food as possible.
