Tired of replaceing evap water..

I am thinking of hooking my ro unit up to my tank so i dont have to replave evap . water this is how im am thinking of doing it. First off i will run 3/8 line to my tank from my 3 gallon presure tank. Then i will hook a silnoid to a float that is in my sump so when the water goes to low the siloniod opens lets water then the float raises then cuts the water off. I am also thinking that i should have a back up float above the low float so if the first float should fail i will have a back up to cut power to the silinoid so i dont get overflow. Does that sound like that would work?

sounds like a good plan to me and I know of others who have done this.
The biggest problem that people have with this is not installing a secondary shut off should the first one fail . . . sound like a good plan to me.

You might also look at sealing your system to limit evaporation. My 55g only evaporates 1/2 gal per week until I started running an external sump/fuge. then it was more like a gallon per day. So I have been thinking of covering the sump/fuge and overflow to limit evaporation. Not a big deal with me because I don't use ro/di. but then when I leave on vacation for a week I have to add extra water. With less evaporation, the system could run longer without intervention.

Most likely if you have a reef tank sealing it off would be out of question
1. less gaseous exchange means less fish load possible
2. overheating issues
I've been tinkering with the same problem on my 300gal. I do almost 2 buckets of evaporation every three days. The easiest and most time efficient means of solving the problem for people without a lot of mechanical/electrical background is to buy a RO/DI and get the kent float valve kit and install it in the sump. what do you intend to do with the waste water? I am planning the same set up for my 215. Also how do you install a second float valve?

The waste water will go down the drain from where the r/o setup is. THe run between the r/o unit to where the tanks are is about 20 ft or so i am going to have a tee in it to feed my coral tank in a differnt room as well. The float valves are easy what i will do is splice in to a extention cord so when the water is low the low float will make contact so it puts energy to the silonoid when the high float is on it will break contact to the bottom float which is the in front of the silonoid. Does that make sense??? If i knew how to make my pictures little so i could post them on here i would it sounds complicated but it isnt i dont think.

there is what is called waste water which contains everything removed by the RO/DI
there is product water which is what you want to put in your tank
