hello all its been forever since i posted due to no tank or nothing but im back. Im currently in process of getting a new tank 75 gallon reef ready like i had before. The local rea club in delaware keeps telling me that i should make a closed loop on my tank. so basically they want me to take my brand new tank and drill a bunch of holes in it with a chance of it breaking. im just kinda wondering first is it worth it second what is the chances of it breaking on me and basically im not very familar with what a closed loop looks like so can some one make a diagram for me or a picof back of tank

I would drill it. If your worried about breaking it take it to a glass shop and have them do it. Drilling a tank is easy it just take patience. Closed loops are very nice to have so you dont need a million power heads

My next tank will have a closed loop no question. I hate having to have powerheads showing in my tank.
DING-DING-DING! +1000

We use CL's on most of our setups, and they are indeed THE way to go.

To the OP:

Here are some pix of the last tank I plumbed that incorporates a CL as well as an external O/F:

I agree with Saxman!!!!! The way to go for a super clean look. You don't need tons of holes, but properly placed holes. Drilling with a rotozip a piece of cake if you have patients.
