to all of those "NO NETS" people...

When you get a new fish from your lfs how do you get it from the lfs baggie into the tank without a net?
I know you're not supposed to add the lfs water to your tank.
Please explain what you do for all of us who are still endangering our fishies by using a net on them.
Thanks!

I just VERY gently use my bare hand to scoop the fish with a palm full of water and put it into the tank. I figure the palm full is not enough to do THAT much to my tank, and I get to know the fish a little & vice versa. I've yet to have a problem, and all the fish are real affectionate when I clean the tank.

I use a small plastic pasta strainer to transfer fish from bag to tank. If needed I will use a net to capture any fish that need to be relocated...or if I have the time I have a trap that can eventually catch fish for removal. Care just needs to be taken to minimise the potential for damage from the use of nets. There is no concrete rule that says "nets must not be used"....actually now that I consider it there are very few concrete rules about any thing in this hobby!

I tell my LFS what I want, he orders acclimates to his soft coral tank, I then feel just fine about adding that water to my system...heck I enjoy it I owe all of my pod diversity to the LFS, from the corals, and fish I bought from him. If I get a fish elswhere, I use a Pampered chef ladel...man you should have seen my wifes face when she realized I stold the new ladel.hehehehe

Most LFS use copper in their main tanks due to adding copper based medication so their fish look healthy... and copper in minute amounts will not kill inverts. there is copper in many of the additives we use for our reef tanks, such as B-Ionic.

I put mine in a 5 gallon bucket with his water from LFS. Then I slowly drip my main tank water into it for a couple of hours then I net him out. If I were you I would get a net.

I use as small of a jar as possible for my new inhabitants and use the drip method for acclimation.
I basically leave the jar halfway full and start dripping.. once full, i pour half out and keep dripping... do this 4 times...
by the end, if any LFS water is still left, it has been diluted so much as not to make any differnce... i then place the full jar into the tank and let the fish swim out on its own...
