To frag or not to frag

I have one hitchhiker mushroom on a piece of LR. Since I got it about a month ago it's doubled in size and it's gorgeous! How's the best way to encourage it to spread? Do I just leave it or should I frag (*shudders*)? Fragging scares me to death!

BTW, I realize that someone has fragged a mushroom in a blender but I'm pretty sure if I try to cut a piece off I'm going to kill it. I have THAT much luck

These guys/girls are the best with fragging and have a pretty fool proof way to do this! Good luck and let us know what you decide to do!

You could just leave it alone, shrooms are pretty good at multiplying.
Or you could take a clean razor and cut it in half while it's still on the rock makeing sure that each half gets half of the base. Shrooms are tougher than you think, if they will survive a blender a small little thing like a razor is nothing

Seriously? Just slice it down the middle? Do I need to take it out of the water to do that or should I leave it in?

i would just cut it under water and run carbon. it is actually that simple! i was scared with my first frag, but it gets easier every time.

Ok.. will grab a razor tomorrow at the store! Oh.. that mushroom is in a deep crevice in that rock... if he's squished will he just move out a bit?

ya I was scarred the first time I fragged stuff and I fragged like 2 mushrooms and one ricordia. It all worked out great and I instantly have like 3 times as many shrooms and rics. It actually kinda fun when you get into it.

I would just wait but thats just me. I had one mushroom and it has now turned into 10. Once it fragged one, all teh others followed and I am seeing a new one about once a week.

How long till one of the fragged halfs grow back its other half?

it will heal very quickly sometimes within a few days it will look like a smaller version of the original and will start to grow. I have some green that moves every couple of days and leaves a little flesh behind and within a week it is a tiny mushroom where the original was.

Weird, I've had this shroom for over a month and it's not spread.. just got bigger.

Same here, mine just get bigger. When i got it i belive there was a little shroom on the stem, but i havent seen it since, thets why im going tho frag. I'm going to do it tomorrow morning. I'll tell you how it goes!

maybe i am mis under standing somthing but i when u put the line down the middle does that mean leave them side by side cause i bought a shroom rock of those and most died got 2 left and they are growing and i want to frag them so they will cover the rock again and good luck with ur fragign let me know how it goes

I would use a sterile razor blade to frag and discard after wards.

mine took awhile before they started to do this I did help some by placeing it near a rock it would partially attach then I would move it since it was attached to a rock it would tear alittle bit of the foot off and it would regrow another one now they are crowded on the rock and i think thats why it moves regularly.

Sorry, i'm not quite sure i understand... when you cut the mushroom in half, place one half in a hole somewhere in your rockwork, and then place the other half in another hole. Hope i awnsered your question. I'll make sure to update you guys tomorrow. Sorry if i kinda "Stole" this thead. My apologies.

when ever I cut mushrooms they are pretty hardy I usually cut straight across the mushroom its going to hard to keep it centered and cut where you want to. you can also cut into 1/4's with the center mouth trying to leave alittle bit of the mouth to each piece.

Before mine spread, it just got bigger and bigger. It was about 3 inches wide before it started to spread.

Ok, i tried to cut the stem with a small pair of scissors, but i guess I just nudged the strem i dont think i cut it, and its srivled up. I'm gonna have to wait till it opens back up to try again. Is it ok?
