I figured my tank could use a little more flow so i put in one of those powerheads for undergravel filters but every time i turn it on it makes way to much noise, is there anyway to shut this thing up with it still working?
Thanks

What is causing the noise? Vibration on the tank from the pump, the pump itself..splashing water...what?

The pump itself is vibrating. I'll post pics of it later (i need to read a book for school
)

A loud pump usually means something is not seated right...take the pump apart and reseat the propller

If it's a new pump (you said you just added it), then it might need to "break in." If not take it apart and as flower said, make sure everything is seated and aligned properly.

Ill see what i can do. It actually might be because of the age. I used it way back when my tank was freshwater, then when it was saltwater, i took it out because of the noise. And i just now decided to do something about it.

The pieces have a twist action to get it apart. Run hot water on it to losen any salt that may be keeping it from opening easy.

What peices do i twist?

The nozzel twists off. Not unscrews, it has two notches and you have to twist it enough to release it. Be careful because you have to remember how it goes back together. It has water hardening, that's why it is so difficult.

I have a couple of powerheads that are somewhat similar to that one and they twist off on the bottom where the strainer is. I would imagine that one is pretty similar since the impellar and shaft would be inline virticaly with the stainer. Take the stainer off and have a good look at the base of it.

My first guess is the impeller shaft. It could be rusted to all get out. It could be broken too.
It could have had some grit run through it and scratched up the magnet too. You need to get it apart to tell though.

Found the problem, the impeller shaft has a crack in it and thats causing it to scrape the sides over and over. Oh well, i guess ill search craigslist for a deal on a korolia powerhead.
(P.S. It didnt twist off, it pulled apart, thats why i couldnt get it apart lol)

You "could" replace it for cheap. Do you have any access to the part? What I mean is, do you know of anyone who might have that size SS wire? Depending on the size, I could send you a piece of SS or, Inconel or, Titanium. I will just cut you a piece or two of our filler wire for welding.
I doubt I will have the exact size but, I fixed my cascade HOB this way. The new shaft is just a touch smaller in diameter then the old one. No issues though.

What do those power heads cost...maybe 15 bucks for a new one?
That place we love to hate has some for pretty cheap.

If you look closely at the part that "pulled" you will see notches, they twist into place on the pump. If it just pulled apart it wouldn't stay on. I like the Koralia brand of powerr head, but me...I would purchase it new..
