To Much Powerhead?

I have a 40 gal. corner tank, 20W 20L 24H. I had been using a cheap 530GPA power head, but noticed some dead and low flow spots. I decided to purchase a cheap 800GPH to eliminate these issues. After setting it up I have to second guess this amount of flow. (1350GPH total). It is the 20W X 20L of the tank that I am thinking is causing the "hurricane" I don't mean swirling effect just a lot a flow within my tank. I have tried adjusting the directions of flow in many different configurations and ended up with both near the top on opposing corners facing each other pointed slightly down. This seems to give the most random flow. My question is, is this over kill for this tank? Again the 20" from one wall to the other seems to be a factor as compared to a rectangle 40 gal.

1" to 2.5" Frags Soft and LPS Corals,

Trumpet
Zoanthid
Colt Tree
Ricordea
Micromussa
Pink Star Polyp
Favia
Fox
Goniopora (this one really seems to whip around)

Fish,

One Clown
Three Damsals

They don't seem to mind the flow. The clown does occasionally look like it is putting up a fight against current.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

In my 40b I have one 800 gph and 2 Jaebo rw 4s that I keep at about 75% power, about 750 gph, with synced pulses. The animals respond well to the flow.
There is a lot of current on a coral reef. Waves crashing into the reef and the tide coming in and out. These animals like the flow.

As long as the corals are not being blown around and pushed over... flow is great, like Imforbis said. "these critters like the flow". The more you match the ocean, the better. Fish grow stronger fighting the current, but there should be a place with a little calmer water for the fish to be able to rest. The idea is to have no dead spots, not every spot needs heavy flow.

I hate being "this" guy, but watch out for cheap in sw. Generally u get what u pay for. That said , some fish love a ton of flow, my tangs sit rt in front of my heads. So finding a happy medium is tricky. If your pounding your corals and they seem ok, you should be fine
