To Much Wattage??

My buddy has a 55Gallon with a couple anemones and some soft corals along with some fish. He wanted to know if running 500Watt MH would be ok. He was thinking about getting a 700Watt MH but he wasn't sure if it would be to much wattage.

it would fry stuff I have 2x250 on my 55 really bright and heat is almost an issue
