I have some light from a window coming into my tank that is promoting the growth of some algae. Should I paint the back of my tank? With what?...please don't say paint.

On one of our tanks I wanted a black back, so we painted it with Krylon spray paint. Dried overnight and we love the way it looks. If I had it to do over again tho, I would have gone with a dark, dark blue rather than black, so keep this in mind when you paint. Once you do, you're stuck with the color.

Instead of paint, why dont you try some aquarium backing? I bought a piece of it from PetsMart. One side is blue, the other is black. It's fun to flip sides from time to time, because it's amazing the difference it makes just by changing background colors. Plus, its alot less permanent. HTH

I just painted the back of my tank and wished I did it years ago! I used an acrylic craft paint I bought at Meijer ($0.97). Just paint it on and let it dry. Because it acrylic, it will easily scrape off if you want it gone or to change colors and no toxic fumes (unlike spray paint). I went with a medium blue. Backgrounds are more expensive, come loose, and get salt creep between them and the glass. I had a blue on one side, reef scene on the other background and could see through the blue to the other side because of my light intensity. Put something back there though, it will make the tank look better and the fish will be more at ease.
