To scutus or not to scutus?

I noticed this strange black snail/slug looking thing on my live rock a month or so ago, and after doing a little research, I am certain it is a scutus, black as the ace of spades with thin white shell down it's middle, not always noticeable. It is a very mobile invert moves quickly once spotted, which is always after lights out in the same general area of my tank.
I have read tons and checked out many discussions here in regard to these
interesting inverts.
I am still having a difficult time in getting any certain specifics on these for
a reef tank?
Good or Bad?
From what I have read online and here at SWF.com most seem
to be inclined that these Limpets can be great algae grazers and are
beneficial in your tank.
In Calfo's and Fenner's "Reef Invertebrates" book, it is said, "It's unfortunate that we cannot trust this snail, like most limpets, as they are inclined to graze live coral and other desirable inverts."
I am sure I have had this interesting creature in my tank for some time now, as I haven't introduced any new live rock or other large LPS for over a year.
I haven't seen any real decline in any of my corals, zoos, snails or my clam etc. and though I did have a frogspawn coral decline/shrivel and die on me a few months back, it is not on my live rock, and I only see the scutus on my live rock at night.
I would have added this to the interesting thread below, but since I know what it is and do not have a picture, here we are.
Please, all you experts out there, what's the skinny on these?
Thanks

Many fissurellids are sponge feeders, but the Scutus is an algal grazer.it can grow to about 6 inches , its commonly called an elephant slug but its not a slug at all its a snail.oh and I would say its a good hitchhicker to have
