Hey,
My answer is "yes". Others will disagree. With a lot of lr and a dsb you can run without a mechanical filter but I believe in a skimmer. A neat thing I saw here a while back was putting the skimmer on a timer with your lights and just skimming at night. That way your skimmer doesn't skim out any additives you put in until they've had a chance to work. Just my .02. Years from now people will be laughing at the way we run tanks, just like we giggle at UGF.

FlyDan is right. Opinions go both ways. A lot depends on your readings to rather you need one or not. What other filtering you have besides lr?
