To skimm or not to skimm???

Hello all,
Sorry for all the losses in the NE that sucks!
I have a small question about skimming after adding additives. I dosed Seachem reef plus yesterday and my bak pak went nuts. It is foaming like crazy from the surface tension changing, so should I shut the unit off?
The bottle sez to add twice a week, so that may add up to my skimmer being off for 4 days total. What gives? Does this sound right? I have not run across this problem with anyone else on this board that I have seen.
Is it OK to have the skimmer off that long?
Thanks,
Paul

It's normal to turn your skimmer off for a peiod of time after adding some supplements. Experiment with the time that the skimmer needs to be off. Depending on what you add, this time period may vary from 30 minutes to several hours. Most supplements seem to become assimilated into the water column within a relatively short time. To answer your question; depending on your bioload, turning your skimmer off for that long may or may not create a problem.
