Hey all, I'm new here, this is my first post!
I always see some awesome answers on here from folks that seem like they really know what they're doing.
Hopefully someone can help me out
Here's my Dilema: I want to move on to corals and I'm not sure how to best set up my tank. Read some great books, like the Eric Borneman's Aquarium Corals Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History so I'm definitely well in to the education stage. Anyhow, I need some opinions here:
If I dont Sump: Possibly the Reef Octopus BH1000, a 600 Series Acan Light, etc.
If I do: The tank sits on my dresser now but I can definitely sump it down into my cabinet I just don't know if it's worth the extra work (it would definitely be a pain). My tank doesn't have a pre-drilled hole for starters so I'd either have to somehow go from the top (if that's even possible) or get myself a new system (which I'm not so much looking to do). I think it would be easier to do a no sump setup and just do a 15% or so water change every two weeks. I hope I'm on the right track. Ideas?
Quick Background:
I'm relatively new to the hobby, started a little over a year ago after I helped a friend set up a 40 gallon. Wanted a little challenge so I set up a little 3.3 Gallon cube for myself with a clown and yellow-belly damsel.
From there, I went on to setup a 5 gallon Hex for some Hippocampus Erectus'.
Point here is that I'm not new to the whole maintenance thing, all livestock are still here.
Realized it was time to move on, and recently (2 days ago) finally moved my two little guys into a 30 gallon tank that is currently cycling. I'm posting here because I'm debating what to do in the next few months when my new 30 is established.
Here's what I'm working with so far:
Tank size: 30g, (36x12.5x17)
# Live Rock: 5 (35lb base rock)
# Live Sand: 30
Powerhead: Aquaclear 70 (possibly adding a second soon)
Heater: 200w ViaAqua
Ph: 8.3
SG: .023
Temp: 78F
NO2, NO3, NH4+: all 0 today, but we're cycling
Livestock: Clown and Yellowbelly Damsel

Picture: (Would likely move around or add/subtract some of the rock for a reef setup)
All and any help is greatly appreciated!
