to UV or not to UV

What does everyone think about uv sterilization. The lfs told me I should purchase one.If so what is a good one ?

Definately get one. I got one and it was one of the smartest choices I made. I got mine used as everything is cheaper that way. If you have a good LFS buy one used.

If you do get one you should not leave it on constantly because they kill bad as well as good marine organisms. Some people use them only during outbreaks of ick or when you add new fish to prevent an outbreak. Many reef aquarist will not use them because they kill zooplankton or other organisms corals and other filter feeders use.

In a FO tank, I highly recommend UV. Since I installed mine [2 yrs ago] I have not had any problems with parasites or other disease. Whatever brand you get, make sure it has a QUARTZ sleve! Otherwise, it will be quiet an ordeal when it comes time to change the UV bulb [which you need to do at least annually].
