My toadstool mushroom for some reason the past 24hrs has not looked good. I just got it a week ago. The past day it seems closed up and the polyps have not come out. Plus its sliming a little bit and some of the edges are turning green. The pic with red circles indicates where the green is coming in, sorry about the pic..My camera sux! Is it dying?? I checked my water last nite.. Also I have it positioned about mid level in my 90g, moderate flow.
Ammonia 0
Nitrates 0
Nitrites 0
PH 8.3
Calcium level 420ppm
Temp 80

Not sure if there is anything wrong with yours, green is probably just algae build up. I have a large toadstool and it sometimes closes up for a day or two but it always seems to be ok. You may have a problem or may not. Im not an expert, but they do shrivel up sometimes.

Yours is going through the shedding process. All natural and in a few days to a week it will open back up again.
Bad algae could be two things, what kind of water do you use?? And what kind of lights are you using??
I use to always run carbon in my tank when I had a toadstool just keep all the noxious slime and stuff they emit out of the tank.
Keep us posted......

Thanks Debbie, that's good to hear!

I use Ro/DI water, its pushing out about 40ppm, I had the Ro/Di unit for almost 3yrs. Sediment cardridge is changed every 3 months or yellow, carbon filter every 6 months, Resin-bed cartridge-just recently changed, Membrane-not yet. I think I need to change out the membrane to get it down to 0ppm.
I just bought the whole setup used 2 months back. I have a 90g w/ 2x250MH's and 2xT12 Super Actinics.
I do have Drs F&S phosphate control in the tank, just put it in 3 weeks ago. Also, chem-pure as well put into my sump 3 weeks back.

Leathers do not do well when phosphate levels are changed rapidly. It is suggested that you slowly lower the phosphate level less then what is described on the back of the bottle.

You know, i would just leave it be and see how it looks in a few days. To me it just looks normal as long as you have good filteration, flow and your tank has frequent water changes all should be just fine.

I'm probably paranoid, but it's my first.
