Well, I will tell you from my own experience. I bought one, and it was beutifull for three days. The guy at the store todl me exactly the same thing, it will be ok, it's easy and they are hardy and do not require that much light. I used to have at the time a corallite light and the toadstool died withi a week. If you have helide it should be ok, if not try to place it as close to the lights as possible: THEY NEED LIGHTS TO LIVE!!!!
I got the helide light and also a new toadstool and its looking great.

What kind of light do you have?
Toadstools like moderate to high lighting and medium flow. Sometimes they will close up and shed. This looks like a slime coming off of them. Normally in 3 days or so they are back to normal.

What are the tank dimensions? If the tank is not real deep they should be ok with new bulbs.

I am new to reefs and just bought a tank with 4, 65 watt bulbs and just got a toadstool last week. It looks great and is towards the bottom of the tank. Should I move it up? If its not getting enough light, will it slowly die, shrink, melt???

If it is doing well at the bottom then leave it. I have mine at the bottom under PC as well.

anemones and clams really should have halides and nothing else. yeah T5's will work in a shallow tank, but for most part anemones and clams need halides to thrive.....
even a condy will eventually die with PC's....srry just trying to let you know

those are condy anemones your talking about. and when you say those sounds like you want several. again anemones and clams should have halides over them...i would personally not recommend getting one if you dont have the proper lighting, and i def would not recommend getting more than one...

if the tenticals are out on the toadstool than leave it, if it shrivels up for a couple days i would consider moving the placement more towards the upper half of tank....

thanks for all the info! Yeah I got 2-75 tanks one of which is a reef. I liked the first tank so much that i bought another one for the other side of my dinner table! will it hurt to move my leather around a couple time? Because I had to move the rocks to catch some of my fish to go in the qt and now I need to redo my reef...

Sounds like Seabae anenome to me. I have two of them in my 55 gal under PC lighting. They are doing great!

I have a 24 inch high tank and at first I was experimenting by placing the toadstool at the bottom under 130 watts of PC. The toadstool did great after 5 months. After researching toadstools I decided to supplement my lighting with a small 18 inch T5 lighting fixture that is directly above the toadstool.
With weaker lighting systems water clarity is so important.
