Tomato Clown Discoloration....

I have to tomato clowns that have become "dark". It is not spots, but rather appears to be a darkening of the scales. I know they are not maroon or cinnamon clowns either. I thought at first it might be due to diet, but i switch between brine, pellet and flakes so I dont think that is the problem. My water parameters check out fine. Any idea what this coudl be........sorry I dont have a pic.

Yes, they certainly can get darker.

Same thing happened to my tomato clown. He was a bright orange color for a few years and in the past year he has slowly darkened to a brownish orange color. It may also have something to do with the natural change for male to female that clownfish go through.
