Well I am back on the hint for a final fish for my 125 gallon tank, And I have been wanting to stock it with a hippo tang.
Now my boyfriend is trying to get me to get a sailfin tang too. I just think this is far too much for this tank. I have also read that they have a tendency to beat each other up. I don't know guys, what is your opinion on this. Its a absolutely beautiful fish I just think that is
too much
Or is my tank full now? That's OK by me as well... .
Oh and current stock of tank:
1 false clown
1 diamond goby
1 Mckossers flasher wrasse (not sure on the spelling on that one)
1 swallow tail angel fish
and a large and healthy CUC

Best wishes!

You have mostly little fish, your tank isn't maxed out right now. The Angel isn't gonna get too big either. Definitely room for more fish.

You have room for several more fish if you add them slowly, keep up with your water changes, and have a half way decent skimmer. You can put the sailfin and hippo in together. They have different body shapes, they would be fine. We have had (and several people we know) sailfins and yellow and/or purple tangs together and never had a problem. You just need to add them close to the same time or rearrange the rock work when adding the last one. You will hear that a sailfin is to large for a 125 but if you buy it small it will take several years to reach that point. My dad had one for over 10 years and it did not outgrow his 150.
Personally, I prefer 1 or 2 medium to large fish (like the sailfin and hippo) and then several small, colorful fish. I just like the movement in the tank.
I have a sailfin in my 120 and recently lost my yellow tang. Our two tangs seemed to really like each other. The sailfin is lost without his buddy. I'm planning on getting a powder blue tang soon.
