How many Mexican turbos should I get for my 55? Someone told me to get 20, but on this site it says keep only one for every 20 gallons. Did the person who told me 20 think I was talking about Florida Turbos? Im getting really confused. I wanted to double-check before I spent seventy bucks on mex turbos.....thanks

i thought so........ the person giving me earlier advice must have been confusing mexican turbos with florida turbos. Does anyone have suggestions on what I should get for a clean up crew? I want some Nessarius snails and scarlet hermits but im not quite sure what else I should get and how many are needed............

I agree on the 1 Mex Turbo per 20 gallons......they mow thru algae. I also have 3 peppermint shrimp and a cleaner shrimp that LOVE to eat. Nass snails are definitely good for detritus and sand shifting a little, cerith snails are good cleaners. Scarlet hermits are good alage eaters, Id stay away from blue legs...they can be aggressive. I will agree with everyone else on the mexican turbos. I got 2 in my 30g, and wouldnt even think of adding another.
I do however have 10 scarlet hermits, and 3 blueleg...and if anything, the scarlets are agressive towards the bluelegs. They jacked their shells, so I had to go buy new ones for the bluelegs.
Thats just my experience with em...others might have had different.

Deffinitely don't go overboard on the turbos. While they do eat a lot of algae, they also knock corals over. When i had my 55 I had 3 of them and about 15 blue legged hermits along with a mix of about 10 nass. and 10 cerith snails wityh a couple of scarlett cleaner shrimp and everything was great. Oh, I almost forgot, also had about 5 trochus snails. The shrimp are great, they will try to clean your hand or run up your arm when it is in the tank.

definately do some research on the mexican turbo's... i have read that they come from cooler waters and dont survive well in our reef tanks where the temp is 78-80. i havent had any luck with them, and i have determined that the stress involved in moving them from the cooler water to my warmer tank is why they dont survive well.

Wow, thanks for all the info. So how does this sound to start off with: 10 scarlet hermits, 10 Nessarius, and 10 Turbo/Astreas? Anything im missing? Im going to wait and get shrimp later......

Is the tank already cycled and running? If not don't add all the snails yet. The turbos eat like pigs and will need time to establish enough "food" for them.
