This is a great place too start! Ask questions here, that's what everyone is here for. If you're looking for reference material, my wife got me a great book for xmas, called "Aquarium Corals" written by Borneman. I don't know how others feel, but, it is filled with very good info (in my opinion) for beginners. Good Luck!

This is a great book for a lot of general information. Also look for coral specific books that include lots of varieties and give all the necessary care requirements. ( Lighting, Waterflow, and Feeding)
Generally Softies and polyps are the easiest to start with and offer a great selection. LPS Large polyp stonies are a little more difficult. And SPS Small Polyp Stonies are the most difficult. (Again Generally)
Keeping the water quality stable is most important.
Avoid over-feeding and over-stocking on fish.
Keep a consistant specific gravity ( salt level 1.025 )
Keep a consistant temperature. 78F-80F
Test water regularly for amonia, nitrites, nitrates.
