I have a 12G nano cube and I'm looking to upgrade the pump it came with. I found a very compact one that outputs 200gph, is this too much? I plan on keeping shrooms, zoos, gsp, a few lsp, what do you think?
Here's what I'm reading:
Water movement should be between 10% - 20% for FO and FOWLR systems, and 20% - 30% for a reef system.
So, you would need 240-360gph of water movement according to that. Although since its a nano, I'm not sure if that would be overkill or not. Considering you have to multiply the gallonage times those numbers, I think it would be alright.
Right now it's the crappy stock pump that outputs 106gph, there isn't much room for 2 pumps, and i am definetly gonna need more flow, once it's done cycling, but thanx for your advice.
OK, so I jus bought a mini-jet606, which says the max output is 160gph, now I'm wondering should I put that in the main part of the tank as a PH and leave the stock pump/PH that's 106gph in the back output chamber as a pump, or reverse them?? Thanks. :needhelp:
I have the same Nano cube. I wouldn't worry about the water movement in that thing. Since it's such a small cube, it doesn't take much power to move the water around in that thing. I think the GPH is more important when you get up into the bigger tanks where you have a lot of water to move around. I would feed my fish live black worms and they had to chase the worms around the tank because of the pressure form the pump. The only thing I think that cube is lacking in is in the lights but if you have the deluxe version with the 48 watt system then I wouldn't worry there either. I have the 24 watt system but I was still able to keep a Xenia happy in it. I have since moved everything to my 45 gallon tank so my nano just sits empty.
