Too much light?

I just ordered 2X250 HQI MH. I am going to retro it into my 36 coralife PC fixture and that will have a 96 Actinic PC. It will be going on my 65 gallon. How high should I make my canopy. I want to start adding Acro and and just let them enjoy the light. So is 500 watts of MH and 96 watts of PC too much? comes to just over 7 watts of MH per gallon. Thanks for your advice.

IMO at least 12 inches from the water so you can feed and clean w/out burning you arm. I dont know if its too much light but I think it is enough light.

i have 2 250 watt halides over my 65 reef and it is the best thing ever.
i am going to get some monti's and acro's next.
what type of bulbs?
i have 15 k and it is perfect, because i am not running any other lighting except the halides.
