i concur with rick... using damsels to cycle a tank is like throwing kittens (ugly, pissy, feral kittens to be sure, but kittens nonetheless) on a fire to put it out.
there are easier, more humane ways to do these things... also, are there any rocks or caves for him to hide from the current? if there are, then he should be ok, even with that much current.
as far as the powerheads go, the mj900 is only rated at like 200g/h, if i remember correctly, so 2 would be just over 400g/h, roughly 13x turnover/hr. this is pretty good for a 30g tank. also, the more circulation during the "cycle" the better, because it increases the oxygen content of the water, necessary for the bacterial metabolism of ammonia to nitrite to nitrate. keep 'em both on, but dont just make a whirlpool, try to point them somewhat towards each other, to increase turbulence and mixing.
