topping off and water change temps

I just did my first water change 3 days ago..Right now I am using distilled water in the gallon jugs until I buy a RO filter. Anyways, I put the water I needed in a Rubbermaid tub and mixed my salt. I then heated slightly one gallon on my stove until all of the water (once put in the tub) reached 78 like my tank temp. Then I slowly added and everything is great...

My question is when I just need to top off with the distilled, do I need to heat the water the same way to reach my tank's temp? I don't know if I just need to add a gallon or so if it is still important? As long as the water is not in the fridge or something like that? I guess I should buy a cheap heater for this type of thing...Please excuse my ignorance :notsure: I am just starting with all of this...

A cheap heater will work well, yes. Fast fluctuations in water temperature can be very stressful to fish, so a heater would be your best bet.
