topping off

from what i understand, if you were to top off with saltwater you would get salinity factors continually rising since the water evaporates and not the salt and chemicals.

The only time I will top off with saltwater is after i am done acclimating new arrivals and my tank is down from that. Almost like a mini water change.

You have to be kidding right, Fresh RO/Di water here.
Reefnut - you know there has to be one in every crowd right? If you would have had a choice about topping off while eating tuna fish sandwich they would have picked that.

Fresh only, BUT the first 2 weeks in this hobby, we DID NOT know and didn't really stop to think about the fact salt stays in and only the water evaps. Thank goodness those few times we hadn't lost a lot of water. This hobby always keeps us on our toes....:)

You need to use fresh water for top offs, and remember also to knock the salt creep back into the tank and check the specific gravity every now and then. Lesley
