torch vs leather??

I had a beautiful torch coral for about 1 month. Last week I got a small leather toadstool coral. It was open the night it went into the tank and the next morning and hasn't opened since. I think it was shedding at least once, if not twice, since then. Problem is, is that the torch looks terrible now!! Should I return the toadstool and get something that won't shed?? I loved the torch!! Would the torch be getting worse from the shedding or the leather? and if so, is there a way to keep them in the same tank, or should I return the toadstool??

leather is shedding and torch looks bad? if its a small tank then the leather probably has something to do with making the torch look bad. if the leather is shedding it might not just be happy with the change or its shedding to remove things that built up on it. mine sheds from time to time but looks better after shedding, but i have devil's hand leather. do you run any carbon in your tank?

sinularia (leathers) corals have been proven to be toxic to all eupyllia (torch hammer, and frogspawn), up to the point of death, usually it only impedes growth and and the impact is minimal, in a large enough system or a system that is running carbon this is not usually an issue, but it can be in small tanks or with extremely aggressive sinularia. and especially so in a small tank with an aggressive sinularia. I put the cabbage leather (sinularia dura) up near the top of the list for toxicity against eupyllia, though i do have several types of leather including the dura, in a tank with multiple specimines of hammer and frogspawn. my tank is realatively large in over all water capacity.

as a side note here are some other corals that seem very susceptioble to sinularia toxins, Acropora, Cataphyllia, Pleregyra, and Porites.
the terpenes created by the leathers can be readily removed by running fresh carbon, water changes and efficient skimming. and definatly never frag a leather in your tank if it is possible to avoid.
