Transfer Tank?? Help Please????

I have a 55 gallon tank but since Hurricane Katrina, all my fish died except a blue damsel, a yellow tang, a clown fish, and a flame cardinal. I have to empty the tank to move it because the carpet it sits on has to be pulled out. I have a 25 gallon tank that I wanted to eventually put salt water fish in. I have way too many live rock to put all of them into the 25 gallon. My question is how can I transfer just some live rock and take 25 gallons of the salt water out of the 55 gallon and the fish and put them in the 25 gallon......Can I just leave the pump running on the 55 gallon with just enough water over the live rock to keep the rock okay??????????
And if I do this all sucessfully....How many fish can I put into the twenty five gallon tall corner tank?????

Your fish should be fine for they are not going to be in the forever and your useing the water form the 55. Just make sure the LR is fully cover in water and has curculation and should be fine. Glad to hear that it was just your carpet and not your life.

you may just want to get a couple rubbermaid buckets to hold everything... they're cheap, and those fish wont be happy all together in a 25g. that way you can split them up into separate tubs, with some rock and sand in each while you get the 55 set back up.
