Transition to New Lighting

I currently have Compacts and just bought a combo compacts and MH hood. I have a 72 gallon corner bowfront. I was thinking of transitioning the lights by adding a little more each week. I have some mushrooms and a candycane. I don't want to fry anything. The MH is a 250 and the compacts are two 55w. Right now I only have 35 w - two bulbs 10K and a white. Any suggestions?

You are correct that you will have to slowly bring the lighting period to the normal over time. It also helps to reduce any algea breakouts. I am not sure how much and how often....it's escaping me right now. Try a search, but it may take alot of narrowing down. Hopefully someone will chime in.
