You will get him easily with a net alone dropped in with seafood! Guaranteed, but be quick pulling it up.

Trying the glass jar, 1 1/2 days later no luck. He went to the jar but would not go into it. So I wait some more, I'll keep you posted.

Came home today to find an empty jar and the bait missing, so I have employed my empty beer pitcher thinking thr glass jar was to short. Hope it works fast don't like seeing an empty pitcher. Roughly 2 1/2 days in to the chase I'll update later.

I don't have a guarenteed method, but copied this from another recent thread. Magic_carp replied this: "lol, i know what you mean, its almost impossible to catch sallylight foots, in mexico they are all over the place, i used to catch them for fun when we go on vacation and this would work, they come out of the water and chill on the rocks and eat algae, get a stick, and you can usaly find old fishing line on the beach, but tie the line on the stick, have long line so you can get it close to the crab, i used fresh snail meat but you could use shrimp, clam, etc, tie the bait onto the other eand of line, tie it tight so it doesnt come off, and literly fish for the crab, it will grab it and wont let go, pull it out of the water fast but be carefull not to forcefull, put the crab in bucket with tank water, and try to push it off the bait, or just cut the line where the bait is so it can eat it and it wont be to stressed. I did this to get several Gorilla Crabs out of my tank
hey it not only works, but you'll have a blast doing it".
Maybe that will work, who knows, but worth a shot.

One thing you can try- and I've done this with fish before, but who know,s it may work. get a big plactic soda bottle, and cut the top off. Then take the top piece you cut off and with a razor blade or something, cut off the neck of the bottle, till you think he could fit in through the hole. Discard this piece. Now, glue the bottle back together, but invert the top piece you just cut, meaning, do not glue it back into place so that the soda bottle looks like it did before you cut anything. Try to angle it up a bit, and use silicone or something think and clear so that it makes a little walkway up into the bottle. Place some food at the bottom of the bottle. The crab should smell the food, walk in through your little door, and pose it difficult to crawl back up towards the exit to get out. You might want to watch him, though and grab the bottle as soon as you seem him in it. Let me know how it works out.

If you tell me you have not tried to catch the crab in a large net with a fresh piece of shrimp, good sized, and you have not caught it, then please attempt it. It DOES work; you must stay and wait. The shrimp will dive in for it but that will only encourage the crab to get iinto the feast, then pull it up. Live rock and decorations sometimes cause the net to snag, just watch out for that. You can not expect the crab to stay put if you are not watching. I have done it twice with very alusive crabs. They are fast. It will work. Good luck. Might help just taking a few rocks out for the net to go to the bottom and be lifted quickly. One of my crabs got a claw caught in the net and that was beneficial. The LFS took them back. They were hitchers. If the crab at this point is conditioned to know it is trying to be trapped, leave the net in for a day or so, then try. You will get it.
