Traveling Seahorses

Happy Turkey Day!!
People bring all sorts of pets with them when they go to their family's home for the holidays. I'm betting this is the first time someone brought seahorses!
I failed to obtain a seahorse sitter and I was racking my brains for plan "B". Then it dawned on me. I've travel with horses before, why not bring all my horses with me to my Mom and Dad's

I spent about three and a half hours emptying tanks, packing up the hatchery, packing up the horses, packing the two 15 gallon tanks, packing the 1.5 gallon with the pony babies(a total of 3 tanks ), and all the essential equipment. To make everything fit in my caravan I pack the horses and adult ponies together.
When we arrived at my Mom and Dad's at 10:30 pm (3 hour trip) everyone had gone to bed. We brought everything in, Brian and Aria went to bed, and I was up until 2 am setting everything up.
I'm going to take pictures of the set ups, but I won't be able to post them until I get home; Mom's computer doesn't have the right drive for the memory chip.
When I got up a 9 am everyone was up. Mom asked what on earth I was concocting in my "Meth" lab in the basement

Sasha and Saphire were patiently waiting at their food dish. And most of the adult ponies were exploring as were the babies. So much to my relief all my seahorses are healthly and happy.
Over all, it's been a very succesful journey. The tanks got a very needed water change and cleaning. And my grandma Ada, who traveled from Michigan, got to see my seahorses. I'm also very happy to have my fish here where I can enjoy them

Brian suggested that we purchase travel tanks for all the horses. So there would be 3 tanks, but much less hassel. His suggestion was very thoughtful, and very endearing to me.

Ok so this is real dedication.

I would suggest everyone come to your house next year.

But if not you be more prepared with extra water made up and everything for the next trip.

What about instead of taking 3 tanks next time you just have one larger one for family get-togethers
They can have a family Holiday together too.

Sounds great!!!! I have extra tanks(except for the one I owe Luke) out in the garage
Some one would need to bring a RO unit, and don't forget christmas tree corals to trade

Thank you, the seahorses are well worth the effort. I'll have pics soon

I borrowed my mom's camera. So here's pics of my new girls:
Saphire is infront, she has silver hilights. Her tank mate is Sasha, who is always at the food dish first.

It looks like Saphire may be growing cirri(the appendegages) on her neck line...maybe

Your little girls are looking great Ryk!! I was at the LFS where you got them last weekend, they still have the little male pair. Very healthy and waiting to go home. Ummm, I might be wrong, but I don't think that kuda develop cirri, particularily in captive. IDK.

Lisa designed this, she should patent it and sell it. It's a simple plastic tupper ware dish with smooth fresh water rocks to weight it down; use the fw rocks so the bristle worms do not have a place to hide and eat the food.
Here's a video of Sasha and Saphire having breakfast.

Thank you I very, very tempted to take you up on the male pair. I will have to return the 1.5 gallon, for some reason the light busted. It would flicker on and off, and won't turn on any more. So If the boys are there, I'd definately bring the girls to meet them

I'm not sure about the cirri either, but I have some theories.

thats a great idea. if lisa don't mind i just may ahve to get me a tubberware and a rock form the creek for my horses. the idea issimple but smart, people always have to lok all over the tank getting the old food out, have to worry abou the worms getting the food, but in that, it works perfectly, lol.
nicely thought out and simple.

Zeke, I would definitely NOT get rock from the creek!! Smooth marbles would work just as well. Creek rock could carry pathogens or disease/parasites that you would not want to introduce to your sh tank.

well yeah, until...
you let it dry for a while
scrub it
let it sit in soapy water for a day, dry it
let it sit in really strong salt water for a day
dry it
=
clean rock
but i noticed there is a small geode sitting outside the garadge door so i got to skip step one
i figure a whitish geode would match the rock and sand more so it wouldn't stand out as much.

The ride home was uneventful, thankfully, and all the seahorses are resettled in their tanks sound asleep.
