Anyone have a good place to get reference material as to which Triggers are "reef safe"? I know there is a couple just not sure which ones and would like to verify it. Thanks!!!!!!

I recomend wetwebmedia. IMO there are several consideing the meaning of safe and for what. Most all triggers will/tempted to eat inverts like shrimp, urchins, stars, ect but many that will not bother corals/ sessiles or anemonies. The book Marine Fishes by Michael mentions as mostly safe are the
Bluechin
Pinktail
Niger
Crosshatch
Sargassum

Watch out for the blue thoats! I've had mine since june/July and in the past 2 weeks...started taking a liking to my Xenia... just goes to show you not all of them are reef safe!

Exactly what I was going to say. There's no such thing as a 100% reef safe Trigger.

they say triggers are not reef safe..My opinion is the enviorment you put them in will decide how aggressive or non aggresive they will be.tank size, tank mates etc....Ive had a undulate triger (yes i said an undulate trigger)for 3 months now hes very happy an mild a bit shy actually swims with all other fish doesnt harass anyone or corals. However i have hermits the size of baseballs which helps with there survival. An allegedly there one of the most aggressive triggers an he is one of the biggest fish i have.just my opinion...honestly the biggest bully Jerk fish is my powder blue tang harrases everyone(except for the trigger!)

Unfortunately, 3 months is far from a success. Given time, you're going to have a species only, Undulate tank...guaranteed.

You cant change a Triggers instinct and personality by putting it in different "environments". Putting a Queen Trigger, Clown Trigger, Blue Lined or Undulate in a reef isnt going to make them nice or "reef safe".

I have a Niger Trigger based on the recommendations of several very knowledgeable people. wetwebmedia says that the blue throat is one of the most passive of triggers and you see what Bret61081's experience has been. So you never know.

First off, thank you for the compliment. I mean, I'm smart...but dont know if I'm as good as Einstein...if you say so, it must be then, right?
I also didnt say put 4 or 5 Triggers together, hence the "OR" between Blue Lined and Undulate.

Congrats...10 years and you still dont know that 3 months, in this hobby, doesnt mean a success?

Might be just me, but I think that would mean they werent truly "reef safe", dontcha think?....I've been wrong before though and you have been doing this for 10 years, so I dont know.

Sounds like a nice setup. Since you're a master, in this hobby, after 10 years, I'd like to know your secrets. Could we see some fish pics, tank pics, filtration pics, stock lists?

Maybe he's an active PETA member and is taking a stand and going vegetarian?

Not "defensivee" at all...just returning the smart ass comments that I recieved.
You're here, giving definitive answers, which are rediculous and passing it off as truth because you've had 10 years in the hobby.
Anyone who has owned or even seen (long term) an Undulate, knows they're far from reef safe...they're not even safe in a full blown aggressive tank setup.

From what I have read the Niger Trigger is the most passive. Different fish, even from the same species can have different personalities.
Here is mine:
Keep them well fed!

Very cute Niger.
Yours is passive and I've seen others that have been more aggressive than Queens and Clowns.

Yes, I agree, and also they can get more agressive as they get older. I just figured I would start with the most passive and then cross the "killer" bridge if necessary.

Usually, the Sufflamen species Triggers and the Xanthichthys species Triggers are the most "peaceful". But, as I said before...there's not such thing as a 100% "reef safe" Trigger.

All this bickering is really not necessary. I come to check the thread and this is what I see,,,,
