Well, it has been a while since I let you all know how the Pinktail, Picasso, and Undulated are doing. All is well in their world. It has been about 6 months now and they are acclimated well. The Pinktail is still the boss, the Picasso is still his happy go lucky self, and the Undulated is still shy as the dickens.
No major squabbles have been happening. They don't seem to be growing much at all yet. The Pinktail may be getting a little bigger, I really can't tell.
I still want to get some pictures up, if I can grab my man to put them into the computer. I am so illiterate with computers. Anywho all is well.
I am also concerned about the major ecological disaster that is about to invade our precious waters in and around the Gulf of Mexico. Can't they do anything to stop the contaminants from progressing any further, or are they even worried about it? I was wondering if they could use the same equipment that is used for oil spills.
Very, very sad.

I am glad that they are all still doing well for you. Just out of curiosity, what is the tank size that you have them in?

lion, a 125. The Pinktail is the largest at about 5 or a little more, and Picasso (which were introduced at the same time) is the smallest at about 3 to 3.5. The Undulated, introduced last is about 4 to 4.5. Raz (Pinktail) Spaz (Undulated) Taz (Picasso) all very fitting names.
I keep a constant vigil on the babes, and so far so good. The Pinktail is definitely STILL the boss. The Undulated is still just as skiddish as all get outs, I don't get it. The cute little Picasso is just this happy go lucky little guy. He doesn't get excited over anything, except food that is. I love em to death. BTW, we have a tank set for any sign of trouble.
Cartman, don't get me started!!!!!!!

I'll keep my tongue, I just wish some intity, Green Peace, or some other organization were there starting to deal with the problem before it gets any worse. I fear the worst for the entire Gulf region on shores as well as the waters. You can only F&$* with this great Earth so long before she starts fighting back. :help:
I'll stop now......Peace

The Gulf will be safe as it will be very dilluted by the time it enters from the lake. The Lake will suffer the major impact along with some LA coastal wetlands and oyster beds. You cannot "treat" this volume of water before removing. Oil spill equipment is a skimming process. Toxins cannot be removed based on the volume and oil removal equipment will not work on this type "pollution". The cancer corridor area of LA pumps all kind of "stuff" in the river that ends up in the gulf. I lived there for 40 years and there is a very high percentage of cancer in this region. The gulf impact will be minimal.
Unfortunately, we should have focussed attention on prevention. This was quite predictable and folks in this area have been screaming since the 60's. Many adminsirations of both parties simply gambled and lost. They thought a strom of this magnitude would be a rare event so they only protected this area up to a Cat 3 hurricane. THey will spend 10-20 fold now just on cleanup.

ScubaDoo, thank you for that little bit of comfort and the information. I know that ALL the experts told EVERYONE that because of deterioration, and lack of maintainance, it would only withstand a cat 2. All of the flooding was predicted as well as the levee breaks. Bureaucracy at it's finest. That area received more funds than any other, yet we know the money went into pockets, not to the levees and wetlands, which would have help alleviate some of the flooding and tidal surge.
The whole thing just makes me sad, and sick, and angry.
Mother Nature is not liking us all that much any more, and I don't blame her.
PEACE...Cindy

Unfortunately, the level of funding was inadequate and no where near the amount required. While money was spent...it was only to the level of a CAt 3 hurricane. katrina, a Cat 4 was simply stronger then the levee/flod wall system

Hey cartman, I noticed where you are at. We are holding a benefit concert 10/22 for the musicians that were impacted by Katrina. We would love to have a contact in your area in order to distribute flyers. I don't know if you are into Blues but you are really close to Eureka and we would love to have some younger folks attend. It will be out doors from 3 to 9. cmf@arkansas.net I hope to hear from you.
I probably shouldn't have even brought the up the subject. So before anyone gets ugly, let's act like I didn't mention it, okay?
Peace!!!! Cindy
