Trigger's Fangs

Hello all... It's been a while. I just wanted to know if fish are a bit like humans when it come to teeth growing in. My Niger's top 2 fangs are starting to come in and are now very noticable. But he is acting strange- always hiding and shy breathing rapidly every now and then. Never been like this before. He is eating fine, no spots, marks or anything on him. The water is fine- no other problems- he just seems...i dont know-- odd. I am just wondering if anybody else has noticed this when their fish's teeth were coming in. He is a great fish, I have had him almost 2 years now. Any input? Thanks.

I've owned my Niger for almost 2 years and he does have teeth which are very noticeable but I don't think it's related to acting weird. I think your trigger is acting weird for another reason. Triggers are pretty hardy and mine has been through a lot such as drastic temp. changes etc. but has never acted weird. I'm not sure if triggers teeth are similar to puffers where their teeth are constantly growing and have to eat food with shells to break down their teeth. Good luck.

Yes trigger teeth keep growing you need to feed them something that can wear them down. Like fresh shrimp with the shell on cockel in the shell or if your local food store has clams or ostiers. That is what i give mine. As far as him acting weird that dont sound like it has anything to do with teeth. What are your water paramaters at?

I agree with above; list your water parameters for better info. I'd suspect your PH could be low, fish will act "weird" when this drops.

Thanks a lot guys for your help... Hes better now- back to his old ways. Water is perfect 'trates= about 15, 'trates 0, Ph=8.2, Amm=0. The temp has stayed level for the most part. We'll see how the next couple of days go.
