what is the least aggressive trigger and would one be ok in a 36 gallon reef tank? In the tank I have a pair of perculas, a yellow watchman goby and a chalk basslet.

I hear that the niger trigger is reef safe. Plus, it is preaceful and cool looking. Sounds like you might be overdoing that tank though, and this should be the last fish that you put in it. A cool fish to put in though could probably be a smaller anthias, or a dwarf angel, like a flame angel. :D

all triggerfish need bigger tanks than that. I've seen it recommended 55gallon for a Humu, and that's about the smallest tank required for any trigger. most require 75-150 gallons.
with your tank, you could probably add something like a royal gramma, a cardinalfish, a damselfish, possibly a small dwarf angel, a dragonet (depending on how well your live rock is established). those are some ideas. I definately think that tank is too small for any trigger. most triggers grow to 9 inches or more and can be quite violent with peaceful neighbors.

also, do you have a sump? because one or two more SMALL fish (like the ones I mentioned), and you may be close to pushing the limits already.

You could keep a niger or a huma in a 55 for some time. I had a niger in my 55 that done well until I got rid of the tank. I now have a Huma in my 190 that thinks he is boss.

Oh sorry I thought you had a 55. Im not sure about the 36 with trigs. And you also have a reef tank so you may want to avoid trigs all together because they are not reef safe.
