big nigers are pretty safe if you train feed them. blue throat (jaw) is the general consensus on being the best. my pinktail (not sold here) is the most docile i've seen. i keep a picasso (aka humu) with her also that seems to be learning the same behavior. it doesn't eat off lr, only when the pinktail eats what i feed.
I have a pinktail, he nips at my hand, anyhting that gets in the water, but it does not hurt. He also eats anything and everything, snails, crabs, frozen food, live feeders.
my bud has him with a yellow tang. they seem to be getting along quite well. i really want one now but i already have two triggers in my tank. a niger and pinapple. the get along pretty good as well, but I don't want to push it.
I have 3 triggers in my System, The Niger is by far the easy going one. The Huma & Clown will take a nip off a finger in a heart beat if placed in the tank. They think anything coming in the tank is food.
Triggers are very curious and unpredictable fish they pick at everything. They seem to always want to nip at live rock or fill their mouths up with sand and blow it everywhere. So, even if they aren’t aggressive (yet)... to get one to hang out in a reef is asking for trouble. Maybe not today or the next... But, 3 months, six months a year down the line... It's a gamble.
Im sure. I have a 180 fish only tank. I was thinking of reefing but i just got a good handle on this salt water thing and don't want to rush into anything. I have a lion in there as well he lost his tail and may soon die from depression. Im not sure who nipped his tail but it's completley off. He has not eaten in a long time.
