Trimming Halimeda

I have Halimeda growing out of almost every hole on one piece of LR. I've let each plant grow about 5 inches or so, and now I am looking to get rid of and/or trim each plant. The problem's that the rock is on the bottom of my reef, with other rocks on top....not easily accessible.
I have surgical steel cutting scissors and am wondering if it's ok to use these in the tank while I'm trimming?? Will they throw my parameters off in any way? They're 100% surgical steel.

No, that will just make a big mess. You'll need to dig the rock up, and then trim. Then, place it back where you can access easily in the future.
